Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Tourism, Ni Luh Puspa, has said that Indonesia is committed to positioning Bali as a world-class health and wellness tourism destination. The “Bali Wellness and Beauty Expo 2025,” which is being held at the Bali Beach Convention Center from June 27–29, signals this commitment

The exhibition, which aims to increase tourist awareness about wellness facilities in Bali, is based on data that more than 23 percent of tourists come to the island for wellness.

“We must make Bali the best wellness destination in the world,” she said in an official statement issued in Jakarta on Saturday.

She added that many tourists are participating in fitness activities in Bali, even though these are not yet the main goal of tourism organizers.

Bali offers a variety of activities that meet the needs of tourists seeking physical and mental well-being.

The island has several world-class yoga and meditation facilities that are often frequented by foreign tourists.

Many specialty resorts also provide holistic fitness programs, including nutrition and therapy.

Bali is also widely known for its excellent spa services, offering a variety of relaxing and rejuvenating treatments. It was even named “The Best Spa Destination” in 2009.

In addition, it has meditation facilities in its expansive green rice fields where tourists can enjoy “forest bathing” as well as a soak in mineral-rich volcanic hot springs for detoxification and relaxation.

Many places also offer “farm-to-table” cooking classes that teach tourists how to use local ingredients to make healthy dishes.

Puspa said that the government unequivocally supports the advancement of health tourism, a commitment underscored by the establishment of the Sanur Special Economic Zone (KEK).

This pioneering Indonesian KEK is dedicated to integrating health and medical services. It has emerged as the largest hub blending scientific and traditional approaches in Southeast Asia.

“This is a strong signal of the government’s serious commitment to developing international-scale health and wellness tourism destinations,” Puspa said.

Meanwhile, co-founder and director of the expo, Diah Permana Tirtawati, expressed optimism about the potential of Bali’s wellness market.

Although Bali is widely known as a destination for vacations, meetings, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE), weddings, and marine tourism, it has never explicitly promoted itself as a wellness destination.

“That’s where we dare to develop the potential of wellness tourism through this event,” Tirtawati said.

The Global Wellness Institute 2025 report has projected that the global wellness sector will grow to US$9 trillion by 2028.

Indonesia is ranked 18th globally and leads ASEAN in the wellness market share. This shows that Bali has a great opportunity to become a world leader in the field.
