Jakarta (ANTARA) - Seventy-three of the 97 people evacuated from Iran — among them an Iranian citizen married to an Indonesian — have arrived safely in Indonesia, the Foreign Affairs Ministry announced on Friday.

“The Indonesian government has evacuated 73 individuals, consisting of 72 Indonesian nationals and one Iranian national,” said Judha Nugraha, director for the protection of Indonesian citizens at the ministry, in a written statement.

The remaining 24 Indonesian nationals are currently in Baku, Azerbaijan, awaiting their return flights scheduled for June 28, 29, and 30, he added.

Six evacuees are set to depart from Baku on June 28, transiting through Doha and Bangkok. Another five will fly out on June 29, while the final group of 13 is scheduled to depart on June 30, with stopovers in Doha, Nugraha said.

“The Foreign Ministry is coordinating closely with Indonesian embassies in transit countries to ensure a safe and smooth evacuation process,” he noted.

In addition to the evacuees from Iran, the government has also assisted the evacuation of three Indonesians from Houthi-controlled northern Yemen, with help from the Indonesian Embassy in Muscat, and two others from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, assisted by the Indonesian Embassy in Amman. All five arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday.

In a separate statement, Nugraha said the Indonesian embassies in Muscat and Amman have raised their alert level to Level 1 — the highest status — for their respective areas, which include Jordan, Israel, and Palestine.
